HISTORY

The Chaste Tree, (Vitex agnus-castus) is a flowering plant of the Mediterranean known for its medicinal uses for women’s sexual problems. The chaste berry has been referred to in Greek and Latin medicinal history long time back. During that period, it was thought to be an aphrodisiac.  . Theophrastus too mentions it in his Enquiry into Plants. It derives its colloquial coinage from the Greek Goddess of the hearth, Hestia. Belonging to the family Verbenaceae, this plant has become increasingly popular for the sexual wellness of women.


CULTIVATION

It is an aesthetically appealing tree as well. Cultivated in the warm temperate sub tropical areas it grows to a height of about one to five meters. The delicate foliage attracts butterflies with its spikes of lavender flowers that bloom in summer. It requires the summer sun and well-drained soil. It is abundantly found on the southern shore of Long Island and East Coast of America. The leaves and berries are harvested and used as tonics and elixir.
